Đây là trả lời của bố mẹ về Lan theo survey của trường trong tuần đầu tiên con đi học. Post ở đây để một vài năm nữa nhìn lại xem con phát triển thế nào rồi nhé.

How does your child feel about going to school?
Lan appears very happy going to school. She shows enthusiasm to go in the morning and keeps telling me of the things happen at school on our way home. She begins to talk with me about her new friends in the class. We are happy that she gets on well after the first week at school.
What are your goals for your child this year?
As you may have already recognized, Lan is relatively quiet and often shy when talking to people. In her first year at school, we would like to see Lan growing more self-confidence, being more relax when talking to people and being more confident to express her feelings.
We would like Lan to be more proactive and more independent in her thinking and activity. Very often Lan would say, “I don’t know, it’s up to you” when asked to choose between alternatives. We really want to see Lan being more aware of her desires and having confidence to show it. UOI sections will be very beneficial to Lan I would think.
On the school subjects, we would certainly like to see Lan do well in class. We would like most to see her improve her reading, listening and writing skills. We would also like Lan to strengthen her speaking skills so she could talk coherently and clearly.
We would also hope to see Lan improve her inter-personal skills and having more friends.
What are your child’s interests/ hobbies/ talents/ activities?
Lan likes drawing, painting, reading book, playing with computer, playing puzzles, swimming, singing and dancing.
Lan is very quick when it comes to puzzle and she often surprises us with her memory. She pays attentions to details and seems to be good with numbers.
She is currently taking private piano tuitions (once a week) and a ballet class (once a week). She enjoys and gets on with both pretty well (more for fun I would have thought).
What type of activities do you like to do together as a family?
We often take the kids out for cycling, kite flying, swimming or playing at a soft-play park during weekend. We go to Singapore Zoo, Bird park, museum and book stores pretty often.
Do you read together regularly? If so, when and how often?
Yes, we read together regularly everyday in the afternoon and/or before Lan’s bedtime.
Do you usually read to your child or does your child read to you?
We usually read to Lan first then ask Lan to read to us or we can take turns in reading. Lan normally needs a little assistance in reading word because when she saw a difficult word, she just guessed the word.
What types of books does your child enjoy?
Lan enjoys books generally. She “reads” animal and natural books very often with her little sister. Lan likes both traditional stories/characters such as Winne the Pooh, Mickey Mouse but also enjoys modern characters and books such as Charlie and Lola, Dora, Little Einstein, Curious George.
Most of the time, she would prefer to read something funny.
Does your child discuss or retell stories to you that they read (to show an understanding of what they read)?
Yes, Lan did this when she finds something interesting.Normally, Lan will ask a lot of questions when listening to a story and gives her comments about the characters. At times, she even learns by heart some dialogues and playsthe character with her sister.
When the story is more complicated (such as traditional fairytales Snow White or Beauty and the Beast), I think Landoes not yet understand the whole story but often focuses on “scenes” of the story. That would be different with modern stories like Charlie and Lola, or Little Bills – which Lan enjoys very much and understands well.
Does your child do any drawing or writing at home? If so, how often and what types?
Yes, Lan previously attended an art class in her Kindergarten. She likes painting and drawing. She can draw whenever she likes, and we have arranged a lot of painting/drawing materials at home. I often encourage her too.
Typically she will draw about family, beach, flowers, animals, or themes that she saw after holidays or going out. One of Lan’s drawings was chosen to present on her Kindergarten’s school poster.
Lan did writing about three times a week before enter the Grade 1. She could write down a short English children song, one or two sentences from a book with me spelling the word for her. Sometimes, I would ask Lan to practise writing alphabetical letters. However, she is not yet capable of writing a full sentence herself.
What are your observations about how your child plays (social skills)?
Lan appears pretty shy in front of people that she meets the first time. She often keeps a distance and doesn’t speak a lot (if not at all) when introduced to new friend(s). She usually watches and observes around first but will become more active and be friendly with others as soon as she get used to the new environment and people.
When playing in the playground, Lan often steps back and gives way to other kids.
Lan gets on well with classmates in her Kindergarten, however she seems to play in a small group of friends (two or three other girls) who she knows well.
Outside class, Lan has a couple of closed friends. They love to spend time together – as often as we (the parents) can.
At home, Lan is a good sister, almost always giving concession to and taking good care of her little sister.
What are some other things you would like me to know about your child?
Lan is eager to learn and often curious about things around her. She is sensitive and normally has good senses of people’s emotions and the surrounding environment. However she is often shy to speak up her minds.
Lan could become nervous and “frozen” in front of a crowd.
She doesn’t like being “forced” to do something, and sometimes turns stubborn if being pushed too hard.
She would follow disciplines pretty well.
Lan likes to be encouraged, praised and to have other’s attentions.
